SUMMARY:Our New Season Starts Here with Mike Martin\, AFIAP\, AWPF giving his talk - "Its not what you see\, its what you make"
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 3rd September 2020 at 19. 30 on Zoom\n\nMike is a sponsored speaker with Fotospeed. \nThis is what he says about his photography; \nI am a hobbyist photographer and keen club member; competitive and sometimes creative\, but always hungry to learn or to help others. \nI’ve been interested in photography for too long to say…I don’t really have the patience for landscape (doesn’t stop me trying though) but love urban photos\, architecture\, plants\, beasts and bugs\, trees\, infrared\, night\, creative\, manipulated images – basically anything. \nNoticeably\, people are missing from the above. Until a few years ago my portraits were mostly candids with a rare shot on a club studio evening – then it changed\, having tagged along with some inspiring people\, who got me started. I’ve now worked with 80+ models and attended numerous workshops \nFrom a list of glowing recommendations this should be a great start to our new season. \nWant to Join Swindon Photographic Society?\nAll last year’s members have their re-joining information. However if you wish to join for the first time\, \ngo to our join us page and costs and email instructions are all there. \nJoin us information HERE\nAny questions\, go to the join us page and send us an email \n  \nWe will show a venue if and when we can return to the hall. Otherwise Members will recieve Zoom details\n

SUMMARY:Summer Programme Special - David Boag's talk\, Natures Garden
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to announce a last minute change to our programme\n \nDavid Boag will give his talk\nNatures Garden\nThursday 23rd July 2020 at 19.30 on Zoom\nAbout Nature’s Garden \nNature owns everything\, even your garden! Leave your garden unattended for only a couple of months and very quickly you discover nature is taking over. Even in a well cared for garden\, wildlife abounds. My camera explores every area of the garden from the garden shed to the little pond and finds so much colourful\, unexpected and sometimes unwanted wildlife. Surprises wait in the shed where birds may nest and spiders hide – tiny flowers we call weeds are so beautiful when looked at in close-up. Of course at night the garden becomes a secret playground for nature; badgers\, bats\, owls and hedgehogs. – So who’s garden is it? It could be yours! \nAbout David \nOver the yearsDavid has taught photography to both photographic degree and wildlife illustration students and\, probably because his style is to make everything easy and achievable\,he has been requested to teach many courses. His tutorial DVDs have been extremely popular and successful and he thinks that it is the thing that he is most proud of.

DESCRIPTION:So Far \nJohn Histead will talk for about 20 minutes on his photographic project that he has been pursuing for a little while. This is what he says; \nMy wife and I often do long car journeys and we share the driving. SUMMARY:The VIRTUAL Summer Programme
DESCRIPTION:Eddy Lane and Gill Marsh each give a short presentation\, \nand the photo challenge is;   Balance \nGill talks about her Presentation;\n“My presentation will be about my voyage to South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula in Nov/Dec 2017.  Rather then showing my own images\, I will be presenting the ‘official’ AVs of the trip that were supplied to all passengers.  There are two of these\, and each contain lots of top class images from 3 semi-professional photographers. I will give a short explanatory talk at the beginning and between the AVs. Also happy to take questions.” \nEddy talks about his Presentation;\n“Lockdown Spring at the Mill” Confined to home I have had a wonderful opportunity to photograph the wildlife on the adjoining stretch of the River Marden. I have never had so much free time to plan\, watch and wait\, which is the only way to capture the elusive visitors to the River and to share their fascinating lives with you all” \n  \nOur first photo challenge subject is; \nBalance\nWe are looking for images on the theme of balance taken during the period of the summer programme. These images will be able to be entered into our Summer Competition in September. It is also the theme of this years WCPF Kingswood Salver Competition which the club will enter and be looking for suitable images for. \nZoom info sent to all members \n

SUMMARY:Jane Lazenby - From Paintbrush to Pixels - Virtual Meeting (Normal club meetings suspended until further notice)
DESCRIPTION: This is going to be live\, and not to be missed\n\nWith the wonders of zoom\, Jane will demonstrate how she uses photoshop to create some of her images.Jane is a seasoned lecturer\, and after working in adult education for over 25 years\, is a clear and patient speaker (with a sense of humour!).  She loves live editing\, she says this always gets the attention of every member! \nHere is what she says about herself; \n\nMy creative pathway from my roots as an equine portrait artist through to a successful fine art photographer. \nInitially my photography was to fuel the need for good clear reference images for working at my easel. This dynamic began to change as clients requested prints as often as paintings\, so accordingly\, my respect for the camera grew. I joined a Camera Club and my journey took me through LRPS\, CPAGB\, LMPA\, AFIAP and is now resting just above a BPE3*. \nMy artwork is now more digital based and hangs in galleries across the UK and Europe\, join me on this insightful journey from paintbrush to pixel.

SUMMARY:CANCELLED Tony Worobiec FRPS - The Waters Edge - A Celebration of the British Coast CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:CANCELLED  This should be a very special evening. \nBelow is a little about Tony from his website. \nAuthor of 17 books\, Tony Worobiec studied fine art at The University of Newcastle upon Tyne and spent 18 years as head of a large design faculty in Dorset. He has won awards for photography in the UK and internationally\, and has had work exhibited in London’s Barbican Gallery\, Bradford’s National Museum of Photography\, The Menier Gallery London and The Fox Talbot Museum Lacock. He is a founder member of the prestigious Arena Group of Photographers. Dozens of his photographs have been used for book or album covers. \nHis work has appeared in more than a 100 photographic magazines both here in the UK and in America. He has been invited to write extended articles for well respected photographic magazines such as Black & White Photography\, Practical Photography\, Total Digital Photography\, Digital Photo\, Digital Camera\, Photo Plus and Photo Techniques USA. Several of his articles have also been published in the German magazine\, Canon Foto. \nA passionate traveler\, Tony (together with his wife Eva\,) has made frequent visits to the USA\, documenting the depopulating areas of western Nebraska\, North and South Dakota and south-eastern Montana. The culmination of this work has been the much celebrated book “Ghosts in the Wilderness; Abandoned America” (published by AAPPL). This was favourably reviewed in numerous national newspapers including The Independent\, The Guardian and The Washington Post. As a follow up book\, “Fragments of The American Dream” was published 2015\, which reinvestigates the same area to see if many changes have occurred. Another personal project involved scouring the old American highways in search of the dwindling glamour of many of the independent diners\, motels\, hotels\, and theaters that continue to survive. This work is an attempt to celebrate these iconic beacons which epitomize the American dream and to ensure that they do not become a fading memory. This project was also published by AAPPL and is titled “Icons of the Highway”. Work from this project also appears on both The BBC and The Guardian websites. His most recent book\, “The Water’s Edge” which was co-written with his wife Eva\, is a celebration of the wonderful British coast\, an aspect of landscape both photographers have greatly enjoyed over many decades. \nA Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society\, Tony is a fine art photographer with work in the permanent collection of The RPS\, The Fox Talbot Museum and in numerous corporate and private collections here in the UK\, in Europe\, Japan and in The States.
