Here is part of a review from one of John’s talks earlier this year
“John is a very good photographer, a very, very good photographer. Apart from his ability to handle the techniques involved in modern photography, the mechanics as it were, he has the ability to translate a promising subject into a pleasing print that shows the viewer how he ‘saw’ that subject. The ‘saw’ is in quotes because he doesn’t just see as we all as a group might see if we looked in the same direction with our eyes open, he does more than that. He does even more than Holmes required of Watson who ‘saw’ but did not ‘observe’, because he translates the retinal image into a print that reflects his emotional response to that subject.”
